Composite Fillings

Composite Fillings

Composite and Tooth Colored Fillings, Cosmetic Tooth Fillings

When considering tooth fillings, one of the options available are composite fillings which are made from durable plastics that are similar in color to natural teeth. Because the composite fillings are tooth-colored, they look more natural and are less noticeable compared to other types of fillings.

Composite fillings also allow your dentist to be more conservative when drilling on your tooth.  Since the composite bonds to your tooth, your dentist does not need to drill away healthy tooth structure such as what was required by older materials.  Composite fillings are also more easily repaired if needed.  If a filling made of an older material like amalgam became damaged, the entire filling would have to be replaced.  However, composite fillings can typically be repaired rather than replaced entirely if a portion of the filling is damaged.

Another benefit of tooth-colored fillings is that they are compatible with sealants allowing your dentist to perform both procedures in a single sitting preventing further decay.
