Sealants are thin layers of resin that are placed on the pits, fissures, and grooves of molars to prevent decay on these surfaces. The majority of decay on back teeth starts in the grooves and pits of chewing surfaces, especially during the first few years after their eruption.

Oral and oropharyngeal cancers can affect the lips, gums, tongue, the floor and roof of the mouth, the cheeks, saliva glands, throat and tonsils.  The Oral Cancer Foundation estimates that more than 58,000 Americans will be diagnosed with oral or oropharyngeal cancer this year.  Tobacco use is a risk factor, but even those who don’t use tobacco products can develop oral cancer, typically due to HPV.  We screen all of our patients routinely for signs of potential lesions, and we’ll help you seek the proper treatment if we identify something suspicious.
